Turning Science
into Profitable Products
Overview
Technicor and BIT 7, Inc., combined to convert a science discovery from International Electrochemical Corporation into a broad product line with revenue generation capability.
Challenge
INESCO developed and patented a revolutionary method
to capture biological material from the air, and then introduce the material in liquid form to analytical equipment used to detect the presence of Bacillus anthracis known to cause Anthrax. The original prototype fit in the back of a pickup, making it too large and cumbersome to become commercially attractive.
Solution
Technicor provided immediate relief by supplying technical people to analyze the existing prototype and determine the scientific and engineering requirements. The unit size and cost needed to be reduced significantly. Supplemental equipment needed to be developed to make the unit.
Results
INESCO now has a medium and low-cost version of the capturing device, rechargeable battery backup, remote sampling, a series of collection mediums and a device for long- term continuous operation. These solutions satisfied the needs for a variety of agencies at high and low levels which succeeded in both commercializing the science and increasing the number of interested users.
